PostSubject: I'm not an Anarchist.   Sat Jul 12, 2008 1:43 am

Hello.

George is my name.

I'm not an Anarchist...though, I've been giving it much considerable thought. But, for the time being, I'd consider myself an "Independent"; though, all of my beliefs are "Left-Wing Libertarian", with a couple of things that woul be considered "Liberal".

I came to this blog, though, to learn. Learn, possibly, what made you become an Anarchist...how? Why? For what reason? ....If you don't mind me asking, that is.

I allso came here to discuss; I feel that something such as Anarchy, can never happen....cos there are too many "Wolf Blitzer's", "Wiliam Buckley's" and "Bill O'Reilly's" in the world....too many right-wing extremist's, I don't know if the Government would ever fall. I don't think the Government would fall even if Washington, DC was wiped off of the face of the Earth.

Or, am I missing something here??

Hello, welcome to the forums. :] Glad that you are open minded to come here.

How I became an anarchist..... Well I've always, from childhood, have been an anti-authoritarian. I have always thought that no one should tell you what to do and be compelled to do what they say, that why do we need a police force if people are supposedly good and a range of other questions I asked myself. Getting into punk in middle school nourished me into anarchism with bands like Crass, Flux of Pink Indians, Poison Girls and Karma Sutra. Other non anarchist bands have, but those where the main ones. And then I started looking into anarchist history and books and here I am. I'm still learning though and obtaining knowledge.

There are also Buenaventra Durruti's and Emma Goldman's out in the world who are dedicated to a new world of mutual aid and cooperation. People like that won't get in the way of us, there might be too many of them but there is a ton of us, working and organizing for that world. Just remember that nothing is forever. Government will become a dinosaur someday, I hope soon.

I never said anything bad about mutual aid and cooperation. I like it, we can accomplish a lot with it, instead of troubleshooting each other for material gain.

Yeah, I saw that, and thought you were against the Emma Goldman's and Buenaventra Durruti's...but, then realised a little too late you were saying you won't let the dumb Right-Wingers get in your way....my b!

I'm a post-anarchist neo-existentialist. Post-anarchism is the belief that anarchism is a way of life, that could possibly become the dominant way of life in the future, but thats not necessary for there to be anarchism. I came to that belief because I really wanted to live in an anarchist society but thought that it would never happen, because the ruling class would never allow it to happen. So I can be an anarch and not allow them to rule over me, and also to help other people free themselves from domination, and that is anarchy. So I get some of the benefits of living in an anachist society. What brought me to opposition to the dominant form of society is the way people have treated me over the years; my peers, teachers, bosses, ect. Ive decided I don't want to be controlled by them. Also, capitalism sucks because it exploits an impoverished working class. So I try not to support the major corporations, especially the ones that exploit their employees the most, like wal-mart.

Welcome to the forum -- I'm glad to see a variety of people joining now, not only Anarchists. :]

Hmm, how I became an Anarchist..

I took a college level course on political history at Universidad Des La Americas in Puebla in 8th grade -- at the time, I wasn't a exactly a socialist or an anarchist but I knew I wasn't a capitalist; I sympathized original communist views. In the class, I learned about past revolutions and political philosophy outside the United States. After that, I had come to the conclusion that you really are not taught nearly as enough as you should be about such topics and when you are, they're generally lies. I learned about Marxism, the Cuban revolution, the Chilean revolution, corporations in the United States and many other things. After taking the course, I considered myself a state socialist (but anti-authoritarian).

The next year I looked into American Libertarian views, whether they were right or left wing. I loved the idea of Libertarianism, but came to the conclusion that those not able to provide for themselves would suffer. I then declared myself as a Libertarian Socialist, not knowing that it was an actual (and somewhat well-known) philosophy. I have descried as somewhat of a punk and have always generally knew what Anarchism was, but mainly believed it was only the Individualistic Anarchism where you only look after yourself. After looking into Libertarian Socialism, I found that it was very similar to Anarchism so I looked into how Anarchism was actually a type of Socialism.

I have much of the same views on life as....all of you, really.

Maybe I'm allready Anarchist, and I just don't realise it, yet....lol.

Eh...I'll figure it all out one of these days.

Be well, to you all.

It's not so much that. Many people would be Anarchists if they realized that there were other ways to change.
Many liberals (and of course conservatives) simply stick to their system because they were taught to.

Well I eventually realized how wonderful an anarchist society would be, actually I was realizing that at the same time I got pissed off at non-anarchists, but now I believe that an anarchist society would be the best kind of society ever, and I don't want to settle for anything less.

I don't know. I've been having a very hard time seeing how an Anarchhist Society couldn't literally fall in on itself.

There has to be a mutual agreement between EVERYONE in this country in order for it to work, not just with the people who want it. No offense, but it just seems like you guys are hoping for something that'll never happen...like the Christians, waiting for Jesus to comeback, lol. There are too many narrow-minded, one-sided, racist, brainwashed, Republican'ts in this country...I don't ever see it working....maybe when every Republican is dead, or lightens up...but, I'm not so sure either of those will ever happen.

I'd rather see someone say they're an Anarchist than a Republican, though.

Not at all, the notion that Anarchism=chaos is false, it has been tried in the past in certain parts of Africa, South American and mainly Spain in the 30's.
