THE PAIN RAY

The capitalist defense companies have created a weapon nicknamed the "pain ray" that wards off protesters.

The Active Denial System (ADS) is a supposedly "non-lethal", directed-energy weapon developed by the U.S. military and contractors. It is a strong millimeter-wave transmitter used for "crowd control" (the "goodbye effect"*). Informally, the weapon is also called Pain Ray. Raytheon is currently marketing a reduced range version of this technology.

The ADS works by directing electromagnetic radiation, specifically, high-frequency microwave radiation, at a frequency of 95 GHz (a wavelength of 3.2 mm) toward the subjects. The waves excite water molecules in the epidermis to around 130 ░F (55 ░C), causing an intensely painful sensation of extreme heat. The focused beam can be directed at targets at a range of just under half a kilometer.

This frequency was chosen because, due to the stronger absorption of water at those frequencies, they penetrate the skin to a depth of just 1/64 of an inch (0.4 mm)," which is where the nerve endings are exactly located. [SICK FUCKS].

Controversy as to the methodology of testing, in which volunteers were asked to remove glasses, contact lenses and metallic objects that could cause hot spots, has raised concerns as to whether the device would remain true to its purpose of non-lethal temporary incapacitation if used in the field where safety precautions would not be taken. So were they to (when they) use this in protests, hot spots will be present in those with earrings, glasses, metal implants, etc. Volunteers were asked to take out contacts as well -- there is possibility of internal damage to they eyes if this occurs.

My father, who unfortunately had to interact with a lot of defense contractors, said that these things will be put to use in the very near future. This was the "shit cannon" my mother warned me about after telling her about the protests at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

* The said "goodbye effect" can be compared to an intense burning sensation, like being on fire. Yup, goodbye.

I looked into this extensively. METAL, Even foil. This is why foil shoots out sparks/fire when you put it in the microwave (what this cannon is). The cannon shoots out MICROWAVES, so you can (slightly) defend yourself with foil... But how?

I didn't even think of Orwell, though you're very right!
