I believe in peaceful revolution and I believe in teaching those who do not understand us the true side of anarchism and when we do they may realise everything they thought they were was in fact anarchism and the contridictions they defended can be laid to rest and I believe we MUST work together and do so not with fire in our hands but with fire in our hearts.

How can we stand a chance at an anarchistic existance if we can not use those in our revolution. If we cannot work together now how can we survive after the battle has ended? We cant, not if we do not allow ourselfs to practice what we preach while we preach it.

Hey Joker - welcome to the forum by the way.

While I appreciate the intention behind the idea of peaceful revolution I find it somewhat naive. While educating people about Anarchism is essential I think it important to point out that there is a large section of the population who are inherently opposed to our ideology, namely the bourgeoisie. Our interests and those of the capitalist elite are irreconcilable and as history testifies freedom is never ''handed over'' - it must be fought for, often through long and violent revolution. Nor do I agree with concessions, negations or participation in capitalist institutions - those who by their nature wish to preserve the current institutions of social domination and oppression thereby subjugating us to there decree must be cast off in an act of forceful self liberation.

i agree that we have to convert people first. start in the internet, forums and youtube. i have already made posts about this, but i dont know how many people followed my suggestions. in a few weeks (like 10 minutes a day), i sent a message to over 300 people about anarchism. a few people actually responded saying they were interested in the iedology. if one person can convert 10, that is a step forward. those 10 people will later go on to tell thei friends about it.

peaceful revolution is possible. just think about it, the police in greece is protesting against the violence they are forced to use against the rioters. they claim that they should not have to respond to the executive power, instead, to the judiciary power.
if the police, which is the force which protects the state and property, is protesting, there are chances that we can convert them to libertarian or anarchist ideologies.

plus, i am a mutualist, and a great part of the mutualist revolution is non-violent. it's participating in the grey market and establishing mutual banks and alternative economics. that, along with municipal politics, can achieve a great deal of autonomy and freedom for everyone. it will bring social and economic evolution.

i dont think the burgeoise, who is a minority, is stupid enough to fight against the angry majority. they have done so in the past because they had other forces to back them up, for exmaple, nazis and fascists.

I don't think the bourgeoisie will relinquish their position without substantial conflict, this is shown throughout history. Greece ? the police used extreme brutality, no one (forced) them, they exercised aggression against anarchists because they think capitalism is just. The Greek police conscripted neo nazi's and various other reactionaries to fight with them. Regardless of Anarchisms idealogical strength the upper class will always pay reactionary mercenaries to do their bidding. The capitalists would kill as many people as possible in order to prevent socialism from occurring. The Greek police only went on the defensive because they had (run out of tear gas). Perhaps some police protested however the rich will always pay lapdogs to impose there rule - these people cannot be converted, if Anarchism grows a class war will ensue. Theres no such thing as a peaceful revolution - only various degrees of violent revolution, hopefully the violence will be swift and kept to a minimum.

Mutualism cant exist unless capitalism is destroyed first - in a world where multinational corporations rule no one will ever be on an equal footing with regards access to capital which would be a pre-requisite for mutualism. In order for egalitarianism and equality in self determination to occur capital would need to be public and democratically organized (this can only occur through revolution). Capitalism wont just wither away because a few people live in communes. Thats like arguing that the Amish are engaging in revolutionary activity.

I'm inclined to agree with Inkus on this. I agree that we need to convert others but in the end a violent uprising is the only realistic way to topple governments. The "Upper class" will do anything possible to cling on to their comfortable lives and power.
